That time of year

That time of year

Since I was a baby I have never spent a summer at home, until this year, that is. Now that we are creeping up on the month of June, I’m getting a bit antsy I guess you could say. There is that feeling of "go time" that is programmed into me, it happens right around this time of the year. The time of year where you start making around 9 trips to Costco for summer hunting camp groceries, and cleaning out 70 plus drums to get them loaded with Av gas for 3 months of flying from camp to camp. It's the time of year where you start to process the fact you won't be home for 3 months and whatever you need to take care of for the summer and fall you'd better get it done now. It would be one thing if we could just run to the nearest convenience store for batteries or a gallon of milk, but there just aren’t many of those around in the Northwest Territories. When my sister and I were just little, my mom had all the guides to worry about, plus all those diapers for us rug rats! She really felt the pressure of preparing this time of year.

From growing up, I can remember when school was out and we had about 5 days before we were heading north. We would be sad leaving all of our friends, but I'm thankful now that my parents made us go to camp. Nothing really changed that much in the three months we were gone anyways. Sure there were those exciting summer talks you had to listen to before school got out, about future parties you were going to miss, and boating, and some cute guy I always had a crush on. But in the end none of it mattered. What mattered is that I spent every summer with my family, in a place so amazing that most people could only dream of visiting.

Well this will be the first summer when I might see what the month of August feels like, I hear it’s the best month in Alberta. I can't believe it’s already June, and before we know it, summer will be in full swing. If you haven't read my blog "Change - This Moment" then a lot of change references to that part of my life in camp. I’m excited for the next chapter of my life, although this first summer will be a bit strange. I am hoping to be flying all over Alberta and maybe even up into the Yukon on different contracts. So if you love reading these blogs of mine and following along on some adventures, there will be lots more to come!
